It can include a process of identifying family patterns of relating, strengths, and vulnerabilities impacting on individuals and other family members over time.

On average, families attend for six sessions. The spacing of these sessions can vary, so that a fortnightly meeting could extend to a three-monthly face-to-face, or internet, check-in. Some families can find real benefit in just a single session of time together.

Family work is a really useful tool for working with children, and It is also useful to use, where possible, as an adjunct to individual work with people of all ages from adolescence through to mature age clients.
